Linen wraps have also been experimented with and are slightly heavier than fibreglass, but whilst they have more strength than silk, the weave is more visibly noticeable and the finished product much less transparent than that of its counterparts. The cosmetic difference between the two means that linen has now fallen out of favour among many nail technicians.
Fibreglass wraps, on the other hand, are strong and flexible and although the weave is more noticeable on the finished nail than silk, it is much more durable and therefore requires less maintenance.
“Fibreglass chemicals used are kinder to the nail and odour free, and are easier to remove than other systems,” adds Pamela.
Because of the many similarities between silk and fibreglass, it is often difficult to choose between the two, which is why many technicians offer both systems according to their client’s needs.
Nail essentials
