AFS Presents the ENERGY STAR Challenge Program to Metalcasting Facilities AFS has partnered with the U.S.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its ENERGY STAR Chal- lenge program to encourage the metalcasting industry to address energy conservation. It is present- ing a challenge to the metalcasting industry that will call to action an improvement in energy effi ciency of

will introduce Management Day to its list of events. The annual President’s Session and an economic forum will be included, as well as current human resources and safety issues. This year’s congress will be held April 5-8 at the Renaissance Scha-

umburg Hotel & Convention Center, Schaumburg, Ill. More than 200 ex- hibitors, 100 technical presentations, practical and management work- shops, and Cast in North America (where metalcasters will exhibit to buyers and designers) will be in- cluded at the event. Metalcasting in-

cilities measure energy use, reduce consumption and develop a program to effectively manage energy and sustain savings long-term.

AFS to Share Casting Material Property Information With ASM The American Foundry Society (AFS) and ASM

International, Materials Park, Ohio, have entered into a memorandum of understanding to develop a new casting alloy material database for ASM. The agreement will allow ASM to use information from the AFS Casting Alloy Data Search system, which AFS developed and is housed on the Metal Casting Design & Purchasing website. The purpose of the agreement is to explore

sharing and dissemination of casting alloy ma- terials data and to provide students and practic- ing engineers, designers and material scientists with high quality data in a user-friendly format. The database will be maintained and updated as new data is generated by AFS and its agents. The data will assist in the comparison and se- lection of casting alloys to aid in the design of engineered cast components for all casting ma- terials and processes. The database will be published and maintained

on the ASM website and made available to se- lected ASM members and/or subscribers to ASM online products. “The approach being proposed is creating

a win-win-win situation for AFS, ASM, and the designer and producer community,” said Tom Prucha, AFS director of technical services. “The information we are assisting ASM in disseminat- ing will be of great value to those looking to manufacture cast components.”
