#1 Flash Steve Travis One Design 48

Corinthian YC Seattle Once again Harken joins 48° North in recognizing

the high level of racing here in the Pacific Northwest. Tracking the PHRF racing results of selected series from Olympia, Washington to Vancouver, B.C., our Top 25 rewards not just the occasional bullet, but consistent, top-notch sailing. This year Steve Travis’ Flash took our coveted #1

spot on the Top 25 list. Congratulations to Steve and his crew! The following ten major sailing events were tracked

during 2010: SSSS’s South Sound Series, Corinthian YC’s Center Sound Series, Seattle YC’s Tri-Island Series, CYC’s Puget Sound Sailing Regatta, West Vancouver YC’s Southern Straits Classic, Royal Victoria YC’s Swiftsure International Yacht Race, Whidbey Island Race Week, SYC’s Star & Bar Regatta, Bellingham YC’s PITCH Regatta, and CYC’s Puget Sound Sailing Championship. The same events will be used to determine results for 2011.

We tracked one boat as one entity; if you’ve changed

boats or boat names, sorry, you’re off the radar. Likewise, if you were out of the area and unable to compete in at least four events, your boat was not counted. Performance

48° NORTH, JANUARY 2011 PAGE 44

of all boats sailing in one or more of the above ten events was tracked with a boat’s best four event performances being used for calculating her final position. For a tie breaker we used average fleet size; determined by taking a boat’s average fleet size in each event. If boats were tied, as were Flash and Tantivy, the one sailing against the most boats won. Our goal is to celebrate participation and consistent

top-end sailing. Each boat earned her spot in our list based upon her performance in at least four regattas under varied sailing conditions. Our hats are off not only to all the outstanding skippers and crews who make our Top 25 for 2010 list, but to all of you out there racing our challenging Northwest waters. 48° North/Harken decided on something different for

this year’s Top 25. What’s more fitting than white hats for the good guys? Top 25 skippers will receive an embroidered hat with 48°North/T25 on the front and Harken on the side. Now, when you see a skipper wearing a white hat, you know he and his crew are top notch sailors. Knowing these top sailors can’t resist a boat show,

this year’s winners can stop by the 48° North booth (West 30) during the Seattle Boat Show, January 21-30, at Quest Exhibition Hall and pick up their Trophy Hat.
