NO.1 FOR CRUISING

Perpignan to Figueres

(Paris to Barcelona) Brand-new TGV service from Paris to Figueres in Spain: New London to Barcelona opportunity by daytime trains Two daily direct TGV Duplex trains are due to start operation over the new high-speed line to Figueres in Spain, with connections to Barcelona. One of these will also have a Eurostar connection from London, which means you’ll be able to leave St Pancras by Eurostar at 10.25am (arriving at Paris Nord at 1.47pm), take the Metro to the Gare de Lyon for the 3.20pm TGV, arriving in Figueres at 8.45pm, reaching Barcelona by connecting train at 10.45. Northbound, you can leave Barcelona at 9.05am to connect with the new 11.09am TGV service from Figueres to Paris, which will then connect with the 6.13pm Eurostar to London, arriving back at St Pancras at 7.34pm (1 hour later on Saturdays). Figueres is also home to the amazing Salvador Dali museum, which is well worth a stop in its own right. In a few years time, the high-speed line will be extended to Barcelona itself. Madrid to Valencia The date that AVE high-speed train services will start between Madrid and Valencia has been announced as December 18. The service to Albacete will start three days earlier. This debut was confirmed by the Minister for Development, José Blanco, last month, explaining that there would be at least 13 AVE 102 ‘Pato’ trains a day between Madrid and Valencia. There will be a train every hour in each direction at peak times, and RENFE Spanish railways estimates the line will carry 2.8 million passengers a year. The Journey time between Madrid and Valencia will be 90 minutes. The trains are made by Talgo-Bombardier, can reach 330kmh and carry 365 passengers in standard configuration. The Minister also claimed the new route makes Spain the country with the most kilometres of high velocity track in the world. More info: www.typicallyspanish.com.
