Cruise News An Allure-ing Welcome
Allure exclusive. Ice Games skating show brings the board game Monopoly to life, and OceanAria interprets the world beneath the waves through aerial gymnastics, high diving and dramatic fountain elements. Even the standard film experience is taken to the next level through 3-D technology (and DreamWorks special screenings). When it comes to dining, the fun
Royal Caribbean has launched the new Allure of the Seas with great fanfare. For the most part Allure and last year’s Oasis are identical, but even twins have unique personalities. Here’s what we found.

asis of the Seas broke the mould of modern mega-ship cruising in 2009 – we billed it on the cover
of Issue 45 as the world’s first ‘Space’ ship (above) – and Royal Caribbean promised us something different again when Allure arrived this year. The biggest distinction stems from the
company’s alliance with DreamWorks Animation, bringing the DreamWorks Experience to life through exciting new shows and interactive encounters with favourite film characters such as Shrek, Fiona, King Julian, and Madagascar’s persistent penguins, led by the unflappable Skipper. DreamWorks CEO Jeffery Katzenberg
revealed: “We looked for ways to bring these core characters out of the movies and allow fans to connect with them. I am thrilled to say the way this has been imagined and delivered is beyond my expectations!”

the Move It! Move It! Parade is the undisputed highlight, bringing superstars from the animated movies Shrek, Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragon, and Kung Fu Panda to the Royal Promenade in a 30 minute, high-energy carnival of characters. The AquaTheater’s Let You Entertain Me water acrobatics show features icons from Madagascar, and the popular personalities from How to Train Your Dragon have their own ice-skating extravaganza. A Character breakfast and various meet-and-greet opportunities round out the DreamWorks Experience. The differences in this amazing enter- tainment tour de force don’t stop there, though. Magnificently inspired, Chicago: The Musical headline production recreates the award winning Broadway show in high style, while Cirque-style Blue Planet dance and acrobatic spectacular is a jaw-dropping

Boardwalk neighbourhood offers two new venues in The Boardwalk Dog House hot dog counter (replacing the Donut Shop) and Rita’s Cantina casual Mexican fare (replacing the Seafood Shack), featuring speciality margaritas, plus live music and dancing each evening. Brazilian steakhouse Samba Grill (the night-time guise of the Solarium Bistro) serves up skewered steaks and seafood in a relaxed setting; signature gourmet restaurant 150 Central Park features the distinctive style of Chef de Cuisine Molly Brandt, and coffee lovers can now get their fix at the only Starbucks at sea.

hopping firsts are BRITTO gallery of colourful custom artworks (including an exclusive Royal Caribbean teddy
bear) and popular GUESS Accessories, the company’s first sea-going accessories store. With the obvious emphasis on family offerings, it may be tempting to believe child-free cruisers will be overrun by little feet. However, as you would expect on a ship this size, the sense of spaciousness and the rather segregated nature of active and peaceful zones does afford as much kidless time as you like. Just don’t discount the fun of a great parade or a cuddle with a character; some of the biggest smiles we saw during the Move It! Move It! Parade were on the faces of over 50s! While Allure may not fit everyone’s description of relaxed cruising, the WOW factor is undeniable, as is the variety of first-class entertainment, and the ship is, without a doubt, as much the destination as her ports of call.
