Description: Come hear how the COSTS program (Connecting our Students, Teachers, and Staff) enhanced student success at a Title I Elementary School. Initiated and led by two teachers (one in primary and one in the upper grades) this program was embraced by the staff and is now in its third year of implementation. This presentation discusses the details involved and incorporates technology in sharing examples of student success and staff involvement. Target Audience: PreK- 8 All Educators.

Igniting the Fire in Struggling and Reluctant Writers Lounge J


Description: Reluctant writers often struggle with using authentic voice to engage in writing and expounding on their understandings; this WAM (What-About-Me) approach to teaching journaling encourages students to use their personal experiences in a traditional composition framework. The presenters will impart strategies that engage reluctant writers by applying the “Coding-the-Text” strategy to respond to prompts using visuals. Target Audience: Grades 4-12 Teachers and Administrators.
