THE GAMESCOM announcement that Mass Effect 2would be heading to PS3 this January was a very welcome surprise. The Mass Effectgames are among acclaimed developer BioWare’s biggest successes to date – both critically and commercially – but have only been available on Xbox 360 and PC so far.

discover its infinite opportunities for themselves with a packed edition of Mass Effect 2.

SPACE OPERA Players take on the role of Commander Shepard, a hero who is leading the fight against the Reapers. This ancient race of synthetic creatures are intent on wiping out all organic life, as they have done for countless millennia.

But despite Shepard defeating their first attack, things take a turn for the worst as he is ambushed, separated from his crew and ends up working with the pro-human terrorist group Cerberus. More importantly, the game is a prime example of BioWare’s storytelling skills, with dialogue enabling players to alter the course of the game. Their responses to other characters and decisions they make will affect the outcome of the game – as well as key elements in the upcoming Mass Effect 3. The PS3 edition features a bonus disc that not only details the events of the original Mass Effect, but also provides them with additional missions that are currently only available as DLC on Xbox Live (see ‘The whole package’).

THE STORY SO FAR Since the first Mass Effect is not available on PS3, EA has included a handy ‘Story So Far’ interactive digital comic. This fills players in on the key events leading up to Mass Effect 2, as well as essential information about the universe and its alien races.

KASUMI’S STOLEN MEMORY The cunning thief Kasumi is planning a heist to retrieve an item of great importance from the illustrious home of a deadly crime lord. Players who complete this mission earn new weapons, armour and the option to add Kasumi to their squad.

OVERLORD

Gamers are sent to investigate a Cerberus research base that has mysteriously gone silent, where they find the remnants of a hideous experiment gone wrong. Now they need to shut down the facility before a rogue virtual intelligence escapes.

LAIR OF THE SHADOW BROKER Resolving the cliffhanger at the end of the Mass Effect: Redemptionprequel comics, this mission pack sees fans reunited with Liara T’Soni. Together, they must track down and kill the Shadow Broker, the universe’s most dangerous criminal.
