2004: EA MUSCLES IN ON UBI
By the time EA bought a stake in Ubisoft, it was clear that we had a lot to offer from a creative perspective so their interest in us was in some ways unsurprising. That said, throughout that period we always spoke openly about our desire to remain independent and to continue to see through our grand plan for the company’s growth. This is where our focus remained.
2005 & 2006: UBI TAKES CHARGE ON DS AND WII
Leading on new platforms has always been a strong part of Ubisoft’s
development strategy and we’ve always been
successful in advancing our market share by being at the forefront of these launches. We started as the leading third party publisher at both the DS and Wii launches, and we’ve been able to maintain that success on both platforms since. We also appreciate Nintendo’s approach to opening up the market to new audiences. The Wii was a hugely innovative concept

in gaming terms and Nintendo used this launch well to bring gaming to a wide range of new
demographics, which in turn gave us some fantastic opportunities to develop new kinds of gaming experiences and talk to whole host of new consumers. Today we continue to publish a diverse range of more casual games targeting women, children and families and we’re looking forward to the launch of 3DS, where we will once again be supporting the platform with a diverse and extensive line-up.

This was the point at which we started to line up our marketing expertise in earnest and prepare ourselves to play in the
arena of other major publishers.
In fact it was also at this time that we were able to punch through into the top five publishers – something which was a major goal for the company and one we reached much sooner than we originally set out to.
