G2E PREVIEW
A new approach from Shuffle Master for G2E
Snow: “This year, the sprinkles are going to be the main course” S
huffle Master, the world’s leading supplier of proprietary table games, is taking a different approach to this year’s G2E expo.
“It’s all about the new new thing,” says Roger
Snow, the company’s executive vice president and chief table game designer. “In the past, we would feature a main course of established games with one or two new games sprinkled in. This year the sprinkles are going to be the main course.”
Of the six felt games Shuffle Master will show,
five are relative unknowns: No Flop Pineapple Hold’em, Fortune San Lo Poker, High Five Poker, Dealer Bluff and Rabbit Hunter. “These games are pretty obscure,” Snow says. “Combined they have about seven installs, so it’s a safe bet that a lot of people on our booth won’t have heard of them. And that may include some people who work for our company.”
The other felt game on display, Blackjack Switch, has about 100 installs and is one of the hottest titles in the industry. As for Shuffle Master’s two most popular games, Three Card Poker and Ultimate Texas Hold’em, they will be demonstrated on the company’s chipless table game platform. No other games made the cut. “Yeah, we are leaving a lot of big names at home,” Snow says. “Fortune Pai Gow, Let it Ride, Caribbean Stud, Four Card Poker, Texas Hold’em Bonus, Dragon Bonus, Bet the Set, Casino War, Crazy 4 Poker. In aggregate, those games have about 4,000 placements around the world, but they are on the sidelines this year. People have seen them ad nauseum. It’s time to shake things up.” Shuffle Master in general, and Snow in
particular, knows the odds are stacked against any new game. But the company has high
hopes that at least one of these fresh titles will break through. All five of the new games are poker-based and
they feature head-to-head play against the dealer and an optional bonus bet. All of the games, save for Fortune San Lo Poker, are currently in casinos. Snow says that every so often one of the company’s fledgling games proves itself in these testing stages, and it ends up getting the full thrust of the company’s sales and marketing efforts. “Not to state the obvious, but our people are
pretty good at this stuff,” Snow says. “We’ve done it before with games we have bought and games we have created. We are doing it right now with Blackjack Switch, Mississippi Stud and Ultimate Texas Hold’em, and I hope we will be doing it soon with at least one of these new games.”
