A design for life
Crisplant has been awarded the design contract for a major baggage handling and high-speed transfer system at Calgary International Airport (YYC). YYC has seen a 0.4% increase in passenger numbers so far this year and is the fourth busiest airport in Canada, the airport now requires a new terminal and a baggage-handling system that can meet future demand. The new contract includes the design of new check-in stations, conveyors, a combined inbound
and outbound baggage handling system and inter-terminal connectivity, once implemented Crisplant’s CrisBag system will represent a signifi cant shift towards 100% automation and the integration of baggage systems at YYC. “This design contract presents our fi rst opportunity to install the unique CrisBag system into a
North American airport, allowing us to demonstrate our total commitment to serving the market with our baggage-handling expertise,” says Crisplant airport director, Henrik Mortensen.
A gamble worth taking Delaware North Companies is set to acquire an Illinois casino and hotel for $180 million. The airport F&B
provider is set to take over Jumer’s Casino & Hotel once several details, including approval from the Illinois Gaming Board, have been ironed out. “This casino resort was the vision of the Jumer family. The family has great pride in the property
and it has done a wonderful job overseeing its evolution over the last two years. Jumer’s Casino & Hotel has everything we look for in a gaming destination and will be an excellent addition to our expanding portfolio of gaming assets,” says William Bissett, president of Delaware North Companies Gaming & Entertainment.
Smiths wins $43.5 million TSA contract Smiths Detection has won a $43.5 million contract with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
to deploy its HI-SCAN 6040aTiX X-ray detection systems at airports across the US. The order is one of the fi rst deliveries placed against a fi ve-year, indefi nite delivery, indefi nite
quantity (IDIQ) contract with a ceiling of $325 million with the US security agency, which was announced in September. The HI-SCAN 6040aTiX X-ray system is among the fi rst to be included on TSA’s Qualifi ed Technology
List (QTL) for next generation advanced technology X-ray systems. Stephen Phipson, president of Smiths Detection, says: “This is an important order from TSA for aTiX.
Our advanced X-ray technology provides enhanced capabilities at airport checkpoints with the potential for signifi cant performance upgrades in the future.”
