Accountancy has traditionally been one of the most popular options for employment in Bermuda, but with the


rise of the reinsurance industry and other international business, employers across the Island are locked in a war for talented


young Bermudian graduates interested in the accounting industry. Fast Track talks to Gil Tucker, country managing partner of Ernst & Young Ltd Bermuda, about how Ernst & Young Ltd is addressing the issue.


there has been vastly increased competition for those talented young graduates, and fi rms such as Ernst & Young Ltd have needed to adapt to the changing employment market to ensure that they remain a competitive employer on the Island.

One of the key changes has been the development of the Ernst & Young annual scholarship. For the past few years, the company has been offering a scholarship worth up to $30,000 to a student who demonstrates, amongst other things, the Ernst & Young values statement—who we are and what we stand for:


• People who demonstrate integrity, respect and teaming • People with energy, enthusiasm and the courage to lead • People who build relationships based on doing the right thing.


The scholarship is renewable for the duration of an undergraduate or graduate degree programme, and will offer participants the additional opportunity to gain practical experience as an intern for an 8-to-10 week period during the summer and then for a minimum
