with an eye on helping you select the best of the many different options available. Bermuda has a wealth of opportunities, not to mention opportunities for wealth. Whether you decide to become a banker or a builder, a pharmacist or photographer, there’s plenty of work and plenty of future on the Island.

I

If this section of the publication has a unifying theme, it’s that attitude is key. If you work hard, behave appropriately and continuously try to improve yourself, the workplace will be a welcoming one. On the other hand, if you slack off and avoid your responsibilities, you won’t get very far, no matter what path you choose.

Several of the Island’s largest companies are represented in these pages. They give you an insight into what it would be like working for them and how you should go about making yourself the best possible candidate for the job. For some careers, especially those in Bermuda’s various financial industries, you’ll probably need to do an internship. Kindly, several companies have provided details of when to apply for these and what you can gain.

Ralph Richardson has enjoyed as wide a range of careers as one man could reasonably expect. Now head of the ACE Foundation, he gives us his insights in the foreword to this section. It’s an interesting read.

We also hear from Sir John Swan, former Premier of Bermuda, about the secret of his success on the Island, while several government institutions provide details of what they are doing to assist young Bermudians with career development.

Alongside this, there’s our ‘Day in the Life’ series: a look at six different jobs and the people who do them.

Finally, there’s advice on how to tackle that first job interview and what to do with your money once you start earning it. We hope you find it useful, and please do let us have your feedback.

Bermuda is a land of opportunity for those who want to work. Whether you’re still at high school, or about to leave university, you’ll find something relevant in here. And whatever you end up doing, we wish you the best of luck.
