Moving on up
Bermuda market. A While getting a job in insurance is a
common goal for young Bermudians, few give much thought to what it will actually entail. Fast Track talks to fi ve
established practitioners at Arch, about the joys and challenges of working in the industry.
Robyn Semos joined the company in its infancy, following a spell at another insurance company in New York. Now in her eighth year, she says: “[I was initially attracted because] the underwriting methodology and strategy is similar to what I experienced before. It’s very strategically focused on profi t and that’s what attracted me the most.” Aged 33, she is now vice president in the professional liability underwriting department.
Her sentiments are echoed by colleagues. Patrice Hill, 38, is an assistant vice president in the claims department (professional line). She arrived at the company after her previous boss made the move. She recommended Patrice, who says she “has not regretted one day of it”. She adds: “It’s an awesome company, a great place to work, and the people are wonderful.”
Scott Dunstan, 39, is an excess casualty department assistant vice president. He highlights the company’s potential for growth and its strong Bermudian leadership (Bermudian Terry Pimentel is company president) as signifi cant attractive features.
