YOUTH, JUNIOR ELITES SHINE AT USAT JUNIOR TRIATHLON FESTIVAL
SANDIEGO, Calif. – Past champions Tanelle Berard and Ben Kanute captured the junior elite national titles, and Tamara Gorman and Eli Hemming brought home the youth elite championships Aug. 14 to highlight day one of USA Triathlon’s Junior Triathlon Festi val at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot.
After winning last year’s event in Colorado Springs, Colo., Berard (Clive, Iowa) repeated as female junior elite champion, while Kanute (Geneva, Ill.) claimed his second junior elite title in the last three years.

AGE GROUPERS CAP RECORD DAY IN SAN DIEGO
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – nearly 300 youth athletes gathered at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Aug. 14 for the age group races at the 2010 USA Triathlon Junior Triathlon Festival. Competitors ages 7-15 made the trip from all over the United States, from as far as Massachusetts and Georgia.
In all, a record total of more than 500 athletes competed Saturday, which kicked off with junior elite and youth elite races.

SOUTHEAST SQUAD TAKES TEAM RELAY TITLE
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – With a squad full of individual junior elite podium finishers, the Southeast Regional Junior Elite Team captured the inaugural Team Relay ti tle on August 15 to conclude the Junior Triathlon Festival
All athletes – in teams of three with at least one female competitor – completed a 250-meter swim, a 5-kilometer bike and a 2-kilometer run.
