BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD


The caped crusader wings his way to Nintendo consoles in Warner Bros’ new title…


BATMAN is arguably one of the hottest properties that DC Comics and Warner Bros has to offer.


As well as the classic comics and TV series, everyone’s favourite superhero has seen a revival of late with 2008’s hugely successful Batman: The Dark Knight movie and LEGO Batman video game, which has sold over 1m copies in the UK since release. Last year the multiformat title Arkham Asylum was also released to critical acclaim. Now Warner Bros is offering fans of the big bad bat and owners of Nintendo consoles the latest game – Batman: The Brave and the Bold. The side-scrolling action game allows players to take control Batman and his posse of heroes including Robin, Green Lantern, Hawkman and The Flash to defeat a range of villains from the DC universe such as Catwoman and Gorilla Grodd. Gamers can team up in a two-player co-op mode and even link their DS to their Wii in order to unlock Bat-Mite as a playable character.

THE NARUTO franchise is a popular comic and TV series that first debuted in Japan over ten years ago. During the past few years it has picked up a cult following in the UK and Europe, with Namco Bandai publishing games based on the series. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja


Storm 2 continues the fast and frantic fights from the original game and adds a raft of new playable characters. Namco Bandai’s product manager Kate White tells MCV: “Naruto continues to be one of our key anime best-sellers. The brand is still young, it was recently Naruto's 10th anniversary and it’s the best-selling anime series in the UK.


“Plus, we have a hardcore base of


Naruto fans who are continually faithful to the games so we know that they'll be knocked out by the triple-A offering in Naruto Storm 2.” This time round there are 18 destructible stages and a roster of more than 40 characters, with a ‘drive gauge’ that unleashes special attacks.


Gamers can also play online in a variety of fighting modes including ranked matches and quick matches for instant action.


The story is based around Naruto Uzamaki – a young boy who has a nine-tailed fox demon trapped within him. An organisation known as Akatsuki attempts to capture Naruto and eight other tailed beasts to control the world. Naruto, of course, goes out of his way to stop them. Namco Bandai is promoting Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 with a stand at London’s MCM Expo in October, a targeted print and online campaign, a demo on PSN and Xbox Live and cross-promotional plans with Manga for a series of Naruto DVD box sets.

There are a variety of puzzles to solve, gadgets to use and environments to explore including Gotham City, London, Science Island and Planet Oa. “Batman: The Brave and the Bold is a hit franchise for kids and Batman fans alike,” says Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment’s UK sales and marketing director Spencer Crossley. “With its popularity on TV and DVD and its retro look and feel, we expect strong demand at retail.” Warner Bros is also marketing the game with a campaign running in print, online, on TV and at events. Advertisements will appear on the Cartoon Network TV channel and website before the game is showcased at the MCM Expo in October.
