MCV 10/09/10 31 PLAYSTATION MOVE PERIPHERALS CHARGING DOCKS

There is a flood of PlayStation Move charging stations heading to market this month. Sony has designed an official product that powers a single Navigation Controller and a single Move controller, which is clearly the must-stock item out of them all. But that hasn’t put off practically

every third party from creating their own versions. I-Globe, Energizer, Hubb, BigBen, Nyko and Venom, all have a similar looking products. Speedlink’s version is largely the same, but lets gamers charge four of the devices. Big Ben has an array of different

chargers, one of them powers the Move, Navigation controller and a Bluetooth headset, while the firm also has a charger that doubles as a console stand. Meanwhile, Mad Catz’ product also charges two DualShock pads.

SWORDS GUN ATTACHMENTS

With games such as Killzone 3, SOCOM 4, The Shootand Time Crisis: Razing Storm on the horizon, there’s plenty of call for a Move gun attachment. Once again there is an official

Sony version (pictured), which can be picked up now. There is also a huge number of third party products, too. Hubb has one simply called Pistol, BigBen has named theirs the Alien Gun, Venom has a VX Blaster, Impact Global Solutions is selling a Laser Blaster, Orb has its Handgun, Mad Catz has produced its 3D Shot, while Speedlink has made a longer gun attachment entitled the Peacemaker.

SPORTS SETS STEERING WHEELS

You can thank Wii for the popularity of sports packs, with peripheral manufacturers eager to capitalise on Wii Sports– the biggest selling video game of all time. And now, on the eve of Move’s arrival, they’ve made their way onto PlayStation 3, as well. A variety of sets from the likes of

Another plastic cradle lifted straight from the Wii accessory catalogue is the sword and shield. There are a few games you can sell this against, including Sports Champions(with its Gladiator Duel mode) and Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest.

CONTROLLER SKINS

Jackets and covers for PlayStation Move could well prove to be big business for retail. Wii jackets proved essential as careless gamers let their Wii Remotes slip from their grasps and into their expensive high definition TVs. And for PlayStation Move there’s a huge array of covers available in different colours and designs heading to shelves. Sony has its own officially

licensed jackets in a variety of colours, while Impact Global Solutions offers luminous skins with a ribbed design. Speedlink has produced a Guard Silicone Skin kit (available through Meroncourt), BigBen has a black Silicon Glove and Crown has shock-resistant Silicon Protectors.

Plastic cradles shaped like steering wheels proved popular on Wii for games such as Mario Kart. Unfortunately there’s a distinct lack

of Move-compatible racers available at launch, but that hasn’t stopped the likes of Impact Global Solution designing a variety of steering wheels for consumers. One for the future.

Impact Global Solutions, Speedlink and more are heading to market, with instruments shaped like golf clubs, tennis rackets, baseball bats and more. They are all Ideal products to sell alongside upcoming sports games such as Sports Champions, Ubisoft’s Racket Sports, EA’s Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, OG’s John Daly’s ProStroke Golf, while in the future there are some promising lookings sports titles, not least Sega’s Virtua Tennis 4.

BOXING GLOVES

Did anyone expect to see these? Nope, neither did we. But those inventive accessory folk – clearly inspired by Sony’s brawler The Fight: Lights Out– have decided it would be a good idea to offer sparring gloves that lets you strap your Move controllers to them. It’s certainly different.

AND THE REST…

This is just the beginning. Gamers can expect an array of weird and wonderful accessories to come. A few other notable new products includes carry bags for Move, mats designed to stop players falling over in dancing titles (such as SingStar Dance and Michael Jackson: The Experience), USB extension cables for PlayStation Eye and of course third party versions of the controllers.
