WHAT’S NEW Mobile cabinet enclosures

Optima EPS, an Elma Company, a leading designer andmanufacturer of cabinet enclosures, has announced a new cabinet enclosure for airborne communications, mobile applications or seismic zones. Based on Optima’sM-series for Seismic Zone 4 applications, theMobile cabinet

features double-walled extrusions for a rugged, modular design. The first unit was built in a stacked formation with 38U on the bottomand a smaller 12U enclosure on the top. Other stacked sizes and options are available. The shelter was placed on an isolator platformfor additional protection whilemobile. All of Optima’sM-series cabinets also feature reinforced cornermembers, cross-bracing, and stiffeners to handle rugged applications. TheM-series has passedMIL-STD-810F for shock and vibration. The enclosure is also designed and tested to withstand an earthquake Seismic Zone 4 event as defined in GR-63- CORE without displaying any permanent set or deformation to impair performance or operation. The enclosure also features advanced EMC shielding.

A wide range of accessories, colors, and

customoptions are available for Optima’s cabinets. The company also offers transit rack cases, command consoles, and desks for rugged applications.

Open frame power supplies

CUI Inc.’s power line, V-Infinity, announced the addition of 10 and 15Wmodels to their VOF series of low cost open frame ac- dc power supplies. The VOF series has a low no-load power consumption of

continuous output power, universal input

(85-264 Vac), and are offered in 3.3, 5, 12, 15, 24, and 48 Vdc output voltages. The VOF-10measures 2.6” x 1.8” x 0.9” and the VOF-15measures 2.8” x 1.9” x 0.9”. Protections for over voltage and over current conditions are included.

“The addition of the VOF-10 and VOF-15

series expands our offerings of open frame power supplies to address the needs of customers designing in small, compact solutions,” stated Kraig Kawada, CUI’s V- Infinity productmanager. The VOF-10 is

Connectors expand to SSD industry

FCI, a leadingmanufacturer of connectors and interconnect systems, has expanded its range of SAS connectors for its storage business line with the development of 29- position SAS connectors for the Solid State Drive (SSD) industry. The new connectors are a higher-performance I/O option for SSD applications that require 6 Gb/s data speed.

FCI's SAS product range for SSD complies

with the SAS 2.1 specification in terms of mating interface, performance and signal integrity (SI). SI performance is verified to reach 6 Gb/s data speed, but FCI has also supported one SSD customer in connector

development to achieve an even higher data speed requirement.

The SAS connectors are designed to support

hot-plugging and blind-mating of SSDS, with molded guide posts providing angled lead-in to compensate formisalignment.

The SAS connectors for SSD are available in

variousmating heights and offer two different mountingmethods - SMT retainers or forklock design. SMTmounting enables process automation during board population, which is further simplified with the orientationmolded posts. Themating interface orientation is per current orientation used in SSD.

The SAS connectors can also be utilized for

interposer/adapter applications in enterprise servers.

Smart voltage regulation

Linear Technology Corp. introduces the LTC3816, a single-phase synchronous step-down DC/DC controller implementing the Intel IMVP-6, IMVP- 6+, and IMVP-6.5 protocols. IntelMobile Voltage Positioning (IMVP) is a smart voltage regulation technology that effectively reduces the amount of output capacitance required for a given output error budget. On-chip support is provided for all the IMVP-

6/6+/6.5 requirements, including a 7-bit VID code, start-up to a preset boot voltage (VBOOT

),

differential remote output voltage sensing, programmable active voltage positioning (AVP), output current reporting (IMON, IMVP-6.5) and power optimization during deeper sleep state to increase the battery run time. The LTC3816 is available in thermally enhanced

38-lead SSOP or 38-lead 5mmx 7mmQFN packages and operates over a -40°C to 125°C operating junction temperature range. 1000-piece price starts at $3.25 each. Both versions are available fromstock.
