ENDOSCOPY
all the e-learning content is being developed by NHS staff who are actively involved in delivering endoscopy services.
The e-Endoscopy project will be completed in 2011, when it will be provided free of charge to all NHS staff involved in, or interested in, delivering endoscopy services.
Learning can be self-directed or supervised either on a one-to- one basis or in a wider tutorial setting. This can be done on a course-by-course basis or by following prescribed learning pathways based around subject themes.
Learning is entirely flexible and can be done in bite-sized chunks as the learning management system is able to mark the point at which the learner left a session and will offer to re-start at this point if needed.
Patients will benefit from more knowledgeable and better trained endoscopy staff, able to work flexibly together to provide more effective endoscopy services.
Are there any efficiency benefits to be had from this project?
The e-Endoscopy project offers many efficiency and effectiveness benefits for both training and service delivery.
Improved knowledge improves quality of care – ‘doing it right first time’: e-Endoscopy has unified the central endoscopy curriculum and made it easily accessible. It brings evidence- based, peer-reviewed learning materials to all practitioners at the point of need
Much of e-Endoscopy relates directly to patient care. Over time, we anticipate improvements in the global

rating score – a quality assurance tool applied to all endoscopy units in the UK.
Improved access to training benefits skill-mix and teamwork: e-Endoscopy supports and enhances multi-disciplinary training and team working by ensuring all are working from a common knowledge-base, to common standards.
e-Endoscopy resources enable endoscopy and nurse trainers to deliver JAG approved, unified, structured, tailored learning for staff development and remediation whilst learning paths enable implementation of targeted training and rapid improvement cycles.
e-Endoscopy e-learning provides direct cost-savings. Available free of charge across the NHS, e-Endoscopy enables trusts to ensure their non-medical and medical workforce receive appropriate training and ongoing educational support without the associated financial burden of traditional courses.
e-Endoscopy will increase direct patient care contact time, as staff are not travelling to, or away on, courses whilst 24/7 availability facilitates education and training, and removes barriers to learning.
