The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET), the national lawn and landscape association, held a na- tionwide Day of Service on Earth Day, April 22, 2010. Members of PLANET organized volunteer lawn and landscape projects in communities across the coun- try.
The GGIA Irrigation Division participated in the PLANET Day of Service by bringing volunteers to Smith Gilbert Gardens in Kennesaw to replace the irrigation system used in the “Plant a Row” garden. This area is lovingly maintained by Cobb County Master Gardeners and other stalwart volunteers. In years past, this group has grown and donated over 3,700 pounds of fresh vegetables to needy families in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
The new irrigation system will allow the garden to be watered more efficiently with a focus on water con- servation. Materials donated and installed included a state of the art controller which will allow volunteers

to measure and adjust watering patterns and high ef- ficiency MP Rotator sprinkler heads that deliver a uniform amount of irrigation with less loss due to evaporation.
