In my view

Having sailed in most areas of the world and with more than 30 different cruise lines, I was keen to see what this Chilean company’s take on cruising would be, and how well they showcased the amazing region of Patagonia. To say we came away impressed would be the understatement

T

of the year. Not only was this cruising in consummate – and highly personable – style, but the all-round view of Patagonia that it provided was truly astounding. We came away feeling we had not only got under the skin of this ‘edge-of-the-world’ destination but also made lifelong friends along the way and been afforded a rare and life-enriching journey that makes you feel that travel is one of THE great experiences anyone can undergo. The full story is detailed on pages 18-24, but that is only the start of a genuinely great voyage of discovery in this issue. In fact, we both start AND fi nish this edition with a South American

here are times when being editor of World of Cruising is not just a job, it is a major privilege. That was certainly the case when we fl ew down to Chile earlier this year to embark on a unique voyage with local operator Nomads of the Seas.

adventure, passing from Patagonia to the marvellous Galapagos Islands for another in-depth natural exploration. In between, we feature an Arabian odyssey, a Nile idyll, a journey to India, a British cruise with a difference, a critical look at the world’s largest cruise ship, a study of ‘green’ cruising, a historic perspective on sea travel of 100 years ago and much more besides. We have all our usually features, views and news, including

The Admiral, our Aft View and the essential World of Spas for the latest in perfect pampering.

It all adds up to the best read on the High Seas anywhere in the world. And we’ve got iguanas – LOTS of iguanas!

NEXT EDITION Head North

Set sail with us in our Autumn edition for all points north – or Norway and Alaska, to be precise. Continuing our adventure cruise theme for this year, we sample two contrasting but highly appealing exploration-style voyages, one on the classic Norwegian coastal cruise and the other for the real up-close- and-personal view of America’s 49th state. Then we branch out on a World Cruise in the company of

luxury Crystal Cruises; provide an in-depth view of the new Norwegian Epic, the largest-ever ship for NCL; go sail-cruising with the superb Sea Cloud; take a look at P&O’s latest newcomer, Azura; and see what makes Azamara Club Cruises a delicious small-scale alternative. We visit St Helena and the Mediterranean and fi nd out all

about new cruise line Voyages to Antiquity, as well as take a special Head-to-Head look at MSC and Costa Cruises. It’s all in our next edition – coming in September. Don’t miss it!
