PLANNER PLAUDITS
Dear WoC We were delighted to see our Spring issue of the magazine with its regular Cruise Planner section on all the cruise lines and their ships. We love to be able to see everything all laid out so clearly and easy to read for the full range of choice these days. Please keep up the good work with the Planner!

WEDDING QUERIES Dear WoC
For the most part, I cannot believe the reaction we get when we tell people we’re going to be married on a cruise ship. I don’t know whether this is because in our mid-to-late 20s, we’re not the couple you’d expect when you consider the stereotypical image of a British cruise passenger or because people are just unaware this kind of service exists at sea. I’m a huge advocate of cruises. I took my fi rst cruise when I was 3 and, all the way through late childhood, I followed the industry closely. After having worked onboard, I introduced my fi ancée Caroline to cruises in 2006 and naturally, it was on our 4th cruise together that I proposed. The wedding cruise will be my 20th. The notion of getting married abroad is no stranger to the imagination of a lot of engaged couples. There is no shortage of material for this topic and often this idea is promoted in standard holiday brochures, through travel agents and at wedding exhibitions. There is defi nite contrast between this and the restricted availability of information on cruise ship weddings.
I can’t think of a day which is more important than your wedding day or another occasion which requires such planning. To be perfectly honest, we really struggled to fi nalise our wedding arrangements as the information is either not freely available or in some cases not present.
There seems to be a wealth of marketing information for a P&O Cruises wedding, but other than that, the closest I could fi nd was people who’d been on a cruise where a wedding had taken place. Moreover, there seem to be many people with unanswered questions on the same topic. The Princess Cruises ‘Tie the Knot’ brochure shows a ‘Day in the life’ example of a wedding which is 7 years old – and they’ve added 10 ships since. All of that, coupled with the struggles I was having with information from the wedding supplier, left me to question that if I was having these diffi culties, with all the knowledge I have, how many people have gotten this far and just given up?

Is it that time of the year again already?! We have just received the latest edition of World of Cruising and enjoyed trawling through the Planner section, looking at all the ships we can consider for our next cruise. Even though we are not really in ‘planning’ mode right now, we think it’s so helpful to see each line listed, along with each vessel, and we can day-dream accordingly.

...AND BRICKBATS Dear WoC
As usual, I found the Spring issue of WoC to be packed with interesting articles and was impressed by your comprehensive Cruise Planner. Just one comment – you show Star Clipper vessels as being of 6-star grading. Surely this is being generous when Berlitz classify them as being 4-star?
John Knighton, via email The Editor Says: You are absolutely right, John. This was a transposition error from the Silversea ratings immediately above, which we didn’t spot during proof-reading. While our ratings are different to the Berlitz guide, the Star Clipper vessels should have been rated as 5-Star Moderate in the case of the Star Flyer and Clipper, and Five-Star Standard for the larger Royal Clipper.
Dear WoC
I wonder if you could pass on a couple of small errors from last edition’s Cruise Planner? Just to confi rm, all Cruise West cruises do include gratuities and the Spirit of Oceanus is a Superior vessel.
Paul Gurnell, Cruise West UK The Editor Says: Consider it done, Paul
