and jet-boats for excursions (including a wave-skimming, Navy-issue RIB that was a star in its own right), kayaks, canoes and even fi shing gear.

Compact, yes. Cosy, certainly. Exquisitely comfortable; absolutely.

Chilean barbecue, always accompanied by a range of tapas-style hors d’oevres that teased the tastebuds in a myriad of ways. A range of fi ne Chilean wines accom-


panied every meal and ensured we now scour the shelves at our nearest wine merchants for the likes of Malvilla Chardonnay and Villard Pinot Noir Expresion Reserva! The heart and soul of the onboard


operation, though, were Carolina, Lisette and Perla, the three ‘mother hens’ who ensured everyone knew the day’s program- ming, when we needed to be anywhere and what we needed to take. They weren’t happy until everyone had been properly fussed over and made to feel special. They made sure every passenger was properly equipped for each expedition and welcomed back aboard with hot chocolate

Getting to Chile involves some signifi cant fl ying time but, travelling with LAN, it couldn’t have been smoother. We fl ew Miami-Santiago (8hrs), had a comfortable three- hour layover in a modern, well- provisioned airport, and then fl ew Santiago-Puerto Montt (just over 90mins) with the easiest of connections.
