Ripley’s expands in Copenhagen

Ripley Entertainment has bought back the franchises to two of its outlets in Copenhagen and added two other local attractions to its portfolio. As well as bringing the city’s Ripley’s Believe It or Not! and Guinness World Records Museum back into corporate ownership, Ripley has also purchased The Mystic Exploratorie and Hans Christian Andersen’s Wonderful World. All four enjoy prime city centre locations and were previously owned by Top Attractions. Ripley’s and Hans Christian Andersen World are located side by side near Town Hall Square, while Guinness World Records and the Exploratorie are on Østergade near Kings Square. Ripley’s previously owned and operated Copenhagen’s Louis Tussaud’s Wax Museum, which closed in 2007 after 33 years.

The restructuring was financed by approximately $1.0 billion of senior secured credit facilities, a $120 million revolving credit facility and $725 million in equity committed by new shareholders. Following last month’s sneak preview of the world’s tallest Star Flyer., we can now bring you news of this and two other new attractions at the Prater in Vienna, Austria. Since mid-April, visitors to this famous city centre amusement park have been able to enjoy a new dark ride in the shape of Eisberg. Operated by the Koidl family, the two-tier attraction uses

soon the ride takes an unexpected turn and they sink deeper into the ocean and become prey to hungry marine life!

The Star Flyer, meanwhile, now stands an impressive 110-metres tall, and was recently crowned with a gold clock in anticipation of an early May opening. The ride was built by Funtime, which unveiled the first ever Star Flyer at the Prater in 2003. The Austrian manufacturer also operates a number of other high impact attractions at the park. Also due open at the Prater within a matter of weeks is a new attraction from Moser’s Rides called Atlantis Adventure. Occupying a prime position within the park, the attraction features similar movements to Huss/Heimo’s King Kong ride, and forms part of a plan to add more family attractions at the Prater.

Peppa Pig at Paultons

The first themed area dedicated to the character Peppa Pig will open Easter 2011 at Paultons Park in Hampshire, England. The hit pre-school brand is broadcast on TV channels in 180 countries and in the UK alone generated sales of over £100 million ($1.54m/€115m) in the last financial year. Created in partnership with E1 Entertainment and Astley Baker Davies,

Peppa Pig World will offer seven new and uniquely themed rides including Peppa Pig Family Car, Miss Rabbit’s Helicopter, Grandpa Pig’s Train, George’s Dinosaur, Danny Dog’s Car, George’s Boat and Windy Castle. The rides will be supplied by the German manufacturers Metallbau Emmeln and Zierer. Some of the most popular and recognisable elements of the TV show will be recreated to make Paultons guests feel they are inside Peppa’s world. For example, guests will be able to splash in muddy puddles or watch Peppa and her family enjoying breakfast in their hilltop home. Also featured will be an indoor and outdoor play area and Peppa Pig shop. “There is great synergy between the Paultons and Peppa Pig in terms of target markets and family values,” notes Paultons’ commercial director, Steve Lorton. “Peppa Pig World is by far the largest project the park has ever undertaken and we are thrilled to have secured an exclusive license with E1 Entertainment for the UK and Ireland."

Since the success of Thomas Land at Drayton Manor, which opened in 2008, a number of British parks have been keen to partner with licence holders to develop branded attractions. At least one other facility is believed to make an announcement soon.
