TWO NEW AT LAKE WINNIE Kernels
Silly Saucers
Celebrating 85 years of quality family fun and memories, Lake Winnepesaukah, Chattanooga, Tennessee, is adding two new rides for 2010. Relocated from Kiddieland Amusement Park of Melrose Park, Illinois, the Sea Warrior (Polyp) by Klaus will send “Lake Winnie” guests spinning, dropping, sinking and soaring with excitement. The kiddie area will also welcome the Silly Saucers, a tea cup ride from Chance. Lake Winnepesaukah is already home to the last remaining original Boat Chute and Fly-O-Plane rides in the United States, as well as a beautiful hand- carved 1916 Carousel.
All the fun of the fair at Pleasureland
A fun fair on the former site of Pleasureland in Southport, England, has won a regional award for “best family day out.“ The Lifestyle Monthly Awards were presented in Liverpool before Easter and “New Pleasureland” triumphed over other local attractions including Knowsley Safari Park and the Liverpool One shopping development. “It’s great to receive recognition of the hard work we’ve put in,” said operator Norman Wallis on receiving the award. “Three years ago, the site was a wreck. Since taking over we’ve managed to turn things around completely.”

Tokyo DisneySea Plans Jasmine's Flying Carpets
The Oriental Land Co has announced a new attraction for Tokyo DisneySea, opening summer 2011. Themed to the Disney film Aladdin and based around a similar ride at Walt Disney Studios in Paris, Jasmine’s Flying Carpets follows in a similar vein to Disney’s popular Flying Dumbos.
Riders can manoeuvre their vehicle up and down to a height of 5 metres, and tilt the carpet forward and backwards. The attraction will be located on the park's Arabian Coast next to Sindbad's Storybook Voyage.
New parking lot at Disneyland
Disneyland Resort, Anaheim, California, has opened a new Toy Story parking lot. It has also entered into a public-private partnership to provide work for Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) buses and drivers affected by recent cuts in services. The new lot, located on Harbor Boulevard, adds 2,678 parking spaces. Four portable kiosks will allow guests to purchase tickets before they reach the park gates. Twenty buses and 15 former OCTA bus drivers have been hired to date.

New Pleasureland, as seen at Easter
The Tivoli Hotel is set to open this summer, within walking distance of the famous Copenhagen amusement park. Fitted and furnished to a modern design, the 400-room property has been designed by architect Kim Utzon and will be operated on behalf of Tivoli by the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group. The planned Vekoma Mine Train at Isla Magica in Seville, Spain, is on hold for another year. This season the park will launch a new attraction called Navío Barbarroja. More details soon.
Bayern Park in southern Germany is open a Maurer Söhne launch coaster in spring 2011. The ride will by 460-metres in length and feature a record number of inversions for a launch coaster. Energy generated from braking will be re-employed in the launch system. The ride will feature Maurer’s X-Car ride vehicles.
After 45,148 participants slid a total of 3,593 miles, Great Wolf Resorts has set a new world record: “Longest distance watersliding in 24 hours in multiple venues.” The event was staged across the group’s 11 US properties on March 26/27 as a PR stunt to promote new waterslides in Kansas City, Mason (Ohio) and Pocono Mountains (Pennsylvania). More than $75,800 was also collected for charity, with an additional $50,000 contribution from the Great Wolf Resorts corporate office.

Another new Madame Tussauds outlet will also open next spring in Blackpool, England.
America’s largest zipline attraction has opened at Wisconsin Dells. Located Behind Dells Army Duck Tours, BigFoot Zipline Tours from Experience Based Learning comprises six lines strung across 30 acres. lntrepid riders take in scenic views as they glide over the attraction's four water crossings.
For a fifth successive year, tourists will be able to soar high above local surroundings including Windsor Castle, Legoland Windsor and the River Tames on the Royal Windsor Wheel near London. The Mondial-built ride opened on May 1 at Alexandra Gardens, supplied by PWR Events in partnership with James Mellors Amusements. Previous rides have been supplied by World Tourist Attractions.

Alton Towers Resort in England has replaced the ozone water treatment system at its waterpark. By fitting two Hanovia UV disinfection systems, the resort has seen a dramatic fall in combined chlorines in both its large indoor pool and outdoor whirlpool. Combined chlorines (or chloramines) are responsible for the distinctive ‘chlorine’ smell associated with many indoor pools.
