COMPANY SPOTLIGHT:

JORA VISION

WITH over 15 years of operational experience, Jora Vision has grown to become a leading Dutch design and production group serving the leisure industry. With a team of 50 creative builders and specialised designers, the Rijnsburg-based company creates themed attractions, environments and educational experiences for theme parks, zoos, museums, holiday destinations and other related amusement venues. Jora Vision concentrates its operations in European and Chinese

markets, and despite the global economic downturn in 2009 and the resulting cancellation of certain projects, the company reported an increase in both turnover and profit for the fiscal year. In 2009, the group, which counts Vekoma, Air-Joe and Holland Mast

among its partners, finished an intricately designed queue line area at Futuroscope, France, and also received a THEA award for its themed, interactive mini golf course. The group is currently working on the scenic design and audio-visual

production of a new dolphin show at the Dolpinarium in the small Dutch city of Harderwijk, in addition to smaller projects across Europe. “With our expert design team we are always pushing the envelope to

innovate with new, innovative designs,” said company spokesperson Pam Pezie. “Our production factory helps transform ideas into reality. “Good, unique storytelling will always be the core of our work. We see

that new technologies give us more possibilities to merge the visitors more into the story. We want visitors to be emotionally connected to attractions in some way.”

IN March 2009, Great Coasters International, in partnership with Jeep, cut the ribbon on Terminator Salvation: The Ride. Launched in conjunction with the eponymous Hollywood blockbuster, Great Coasters’ thrill ride innovation quickly became one of the licensing success stories of 2009 and its popularity does not look set to wane any time soon. The ride, which includes a 53-degree initial drop, five steep dips and six high-speed banked turns, combines the classic, heart-pounding thrills of a traditional wooden roller coaster with state-of-the-art technology. Terminator Salvation debuted to rave reviews at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, north California. The 10-storey coaster includes several immersive features, including bursts of water mist, flame lanterns and integrated characterisation. The post-apocalyptic war zone theme is taken to a new level by utilising props from the original motion picture and sound bites from embedded speakers on the back of each car, giving the ride, according to Magic Mountain park president Jay Thomas, the “world’s first onboard audio on a wooden coaster.” Tim Burkhart, the park’s general manager, said such an immersive themed experience took thorough collaboration: “We worked closely with the production crew, with the actors, writers and engineers to create this experience in order to tie a wooden coaster with the post- apocalyptic world portrayed in the feature film.”
