Busy Expo for Vekoma

“THE first two days of the show were incredibly busy,” commented Vekoma Rides Manufacturing’s Charlotte van Etten at November’s IAAPA Expo. “We feel it’s the real decision makers at the show this year too. We’ve had lots of meetings that were scheduled and lots of ‘walk ons’ to the booth too.” The company continues to be involved in many

different projects but clearly the world economic situation has impacted negatively on some of these. “We’ve noticed a lot of projects we have been

working on have been postponed or cancelled,” added van Etten, “although this hasn’t interrupted our business and some of those projects that were put on hold are starting up again. “Existing parks, particularly in Europe, have had a

tremendous year and we feel they will look to invest again. A lot of companies had to slim down but Vekoma didn’t and we are looking very positively to the coming year. Asia, for example, is doing very well and there are a lot of projects there. They have continued to invest and have not slowed down.”

Mack introduces Twist ‘n’ Splash

MACK Rides revealed its latest interactive ride at the IAAPA Expo in Las Vegas in the shape of the new Twist ‘n’ Splash water ride. The new attraction combines the interaction of a

Boat Blaster ride with the movement and technology of the popular Tea Cup ride and incorporates various new, patented features. The boats float freely on the water and rotate on their own axis, while the platform lifts out of the water at the beginning and end of the ride to allow for completely dry entry and exit on and off the attraction. And as with the Boat Blaster ride, both riders and spectators get the chance to shoot water cannons, on the boats and around the perimeter of the ride. Several versions of the Twist ‘n’ Splash are

available, with hourly capacities ranging from 480 and 1,440 people. Nine and 12 boat versions are available in the larger models, while for younger riders and their parents six and eight boat models in a standard circular layout are on offer.

to creating thrilling family attractions and commenting on the announcement, Dr. Gerhard Frank, scientific head of 5D International and inventor of the 5D concept, said: “I cannot imagine a better partner for the premiere of our 5D-Approach in the US. Six Flags has put together a dedicated team of young creatives and experienced industry professionals to make the most of the 5D-Approach, which is a completely new way of storytelling, media production and presentation, technology and show programming, based on the latest scientific findings of human perception and experience.”

The first version of the new ride is due to be

installed at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in the UK for the 2011 season.

Severn-Lamb success

SPECIALIST train manufacturer Severn-Lamb in the UK enjoyed a busy IAAPA Expo, which came on the back of a positive year for the company with several significant orders. Among these was a contract for five trains to go

to Jeju Island in South Korea, which represented a record order for the company in terms of the quantity involved. Each train will be capable of carrying 144 passengers using four coaches each, on a 5km track and using LPG power. The venue is an eco resort and the first train was on its way to its new home in November, with two others to follow in December and a further two during the first quarter of 2010. Other current orders include a Texan train with four coaches for Fraispertuis-City in France.
