ThemeScapes at IAAPA Waterpark for Phuket

THEMESCAPES chose to exhibit at IAAA 2009, in part, to introduce what it believes to be the safest pool deck available. The SafeDex tiles are installed like

most other tile products but thanks to their rubber-like consistency, which is extremely skid-resistant according to the manufacturer, a huge reduction in pool deck falls and related injuries is seen. ThemeScapes also offers full service

themed construction and can work with park operators to create, design and engineer whatever they require. Commenting on the success of the IAAPA

Expo, the company told InterPark that the event proved very effective in generating new leads and establishing some new contacts, while providing the opportunity to show off its work on the new, award-winning Chaos Waterpark in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in the US.

ONE of Thailand’s biggest islands, Phuket, is set to get its very own waterpark – Phuket Aquapark. It will be located in one of the three main districts of the island, Kathu, which is located on the west of the island and is a tourist hot spot. As InterPark went to print installation of the slides was

expected to begin and the park is scheduled to open by April of this year. A joint venture between Eleven KFT based in Hungary and a Thailand-based company, it is expected to cost US$25m, with Polin Waterparks and Pool Systems of Turkey taking responsibility for the manufacture and installation of systems at the park. Polin has worked with Eleven KFT on previous projects,

including Aquarena waterpark in 2000, which is the largest waterpark in Europe, and Aquaworld indoor waterpark in 2008, which is the largest indoor waterpark in Europe. Designer for the park, Zeynep Canbaz of Polin, commented:

“We worked carefully with the unique characteristics of the land to find the best optimum solution. The most important point of consideration in project design is to use the natural slope of the land and this land slope allowed a great location of the rides and the other attractions.” Located on an area of 65,000sq.m, the park features

nearly every type of water slide imaginable, with 17 in total, and includes rafting rides, inner tube rides, bowl rides, a family raft ride and a six lane mat racing ride, plus a lazy river, wave pool, interactive play area, seven splash pools and various water attractions. Eighty-five per cent of the waterslides to go into the

park are produced with the latest innovation in waterslide manufacturing according to Polin – Resin Transfer Molding. This is a low pressure, closed molding process for moderate volume production quantities, filling the gap between the slow, contact molding processes and the faster, compression molding process, which require higher tooling costs. Natural Light Effects will also be applied to the Space

Boat, Twister, Space Hole and Black Hole slides of Phuket Aquapark. This system is apparently unique to Polin and can create natural effects and an even better ride experience. More information on this project can be found on

Polin’s website.
