golfers have with longer greenside bunker shots is using a club with too much loft. If you use a club with too much loft you tend to swing the club hard which usually results in hitting steeply into the ball. A pitching wedge, 9, or 8-iron for a longer bunker shot would be most effective. Set up to the ball just like

you would a normal length bunker shot, use a lower lofted club and open the clubface slightly. When you practice this you will fi nd that you won’t have to swing very hard and you will get more of a forward trajectory. Club choice will always vary depending on the condi- tions of the bunkers. Many people have prob-

lems with wet or shallow bunkers. A very common mistake is having an open clubface when hitting out of wet sand. This causes the

club to bounce off the wet sand into the golf ball usu- ally resulting in a line drive. What you want to do is take the bounce away by not opening up your club and swinging like you are hitting a normal bunker shot. Don’t let bunker shots
