Cmdr. Bill Benedict, USN-Ret. (member since 1992): Benedict

retired in 1994 after service as a surface warfare officer and naval

flight officer. He began a law-enforcement career with Clallam County, Wash., as a deputy in 1995 and was elected sheriff in November 2006. Before being elected sheriff, he worked as a patrol deputy, a patrol sergeant, a boating-safety officer, and an undercover narcotics officer.

Maj. Frank Box, USMC-Ret. (Life Member since 2001): Box

volunteers with Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the U.S. Geo-

logical Survey at the park’s volcano observatory, helping update more than 40 seismic stations in Hawaii. Every week, Box serves the hungry with Volcano Community Friends Feeding Friends. Box is a member of the Hawaii Chapter of MOAA, hosting each year’s Junior ROTC awards ceremony.

Col. Julie Eszlinger Jensen, USAFR-Ret. (Life Member since

2003): As a flight nurse, Jensen flew aeromedical evacuation

missions in the U.S., Europe, and the Pacific from 1965-89. Since retiring in 1994, she has volunteered her time as president of the Minnesota Chapter of MOAA and was appointed to the Minnesota Veterans Homes Board. In Janu- ary, she was recognized as Veteran of the Month by Minneapolis radio station WCCO and Globe University.

Maj. Joseph Lash, USAF-Ret. (member since 1992): Lash

enlisted in the Air Force in 1958, serving 19 years as an enlisted

servicemember and 11 more as an officer after receiving his commission as a first lieutenant in 1978. Following his retirement from the military in 1988, Lash worked 10 years in civil service. Lash was nationally board certified as a physician assistant and, in 1975, became a registered nurse. He has spent 45 years in medicine and nursing.
