Troops Receive Praise in Haiti

D

emand for U.S. forces in Haiti might be dwindling, as govern-

ment offi cials noted mid-February,

but the mission there remains important as it changes from emergency aid and relief to long-term support. Army Lt. Gen. P.K. “Ken” Keen, the

top U.S. commander in Haiti, said in mid-February that civilian aid agencies, the Haitian government, and nongov- ernmental agencies were beginning to increase their capabilities. After the magnitude 7 earthquake hit Haiti Jan. 12, U.S. servicemembers have provided vari- ous types of critical support.
