Although I’d been to the Pacifi c NW many times, it wasn’t until I was stationed in Washington,DC, as a Field Artillery assignment offi cer that I learned what my wife, a Portland native, already knew. That summer, when the weather back east was hot and humid and the DC area had an air quality alert, I was required to travel to Fort Lewis. When we landed at SeaTac, I walked outside...and then went right back inside and called my wife. I said, “Joannie, this is where we’re going to retire!”

The association is governed by a chair and member-elected board of directors consisting of 36 officers from the seven uniformed ser- vices. You can contact members of the board by e-mailing msc@moaa.org or calling (800) 234-MOAA (6622).

Since moving to Patriots Landing, the camaraderie with other retirees who served in all branches of the military, the outstanding staff, and the attention to detail have combined to provide a truly satisfying lifestyle for me every day.
