Students will explore the harmonic relationships of “Notan”, meaning dark and light.
“Notan” is a Japanese term which conveys the importance of strong value contrast in artistic
expressions. Working with ink and watercolor under paintings, students will build pastel layers
with a variety of methods. Animals and botanical subject matter will be emphasized. Class
consists of demonstrations, critiques, and classroom painting sessions. 4 wks
