Exposure To New Ideas

I was drawn to biology at Eastern because I enjoyed the challenge of it and I
enjoy studying nature. It taught me certain analytical and problem-solving
skills that I would not have had without that training. Also, the overall expo-
sure to a variety of classes helped me learn a little bit about everything. A lib-
eral arts education gives you a nice broad background.
Broadening Your Horizons
I suggest that students take a study-abroad program. I had not traveled out-
side the United States until I spent two weeks doing research in a rainforest
and on a tropical island in Belize as part of my Tropical Biology class. A year
later I went with my Environmental Chemistry class to Finland, where we
visited the Arctic Circle and spent five days learning about ecology in the
area. Since then I have traveled to a number of different countries. All of this
started because of the study-abroad program at Eastern.
