2008-09 Athletic Accomplishments
•
Eastern led all Little East Conference member institutions with 81 student-ath-
letes named to the LEC All-Academic team.
•
Eight Eastern athletes were named to an All-America team, including baseball
player Tristan Hobbes, who became Eastern’s first student-athlete named to the
CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-America Team.
•
For the second time in three years, baseball player Shawn Gilblair ‘10 shared
the ABCA Division III Player-of-the-Year Award.
•
In addition to being named to the 10-player WBCA/State Farms Division III
women’s basketball All-America team, Ashley McFetridge ‘09 was named New
England Player-of-the-Year and repeated as Little East Conference Player-of-
the-Year.
•
The baseball, softball, men’s lacrosse and women’s basketball programs all
qualified for NCAA Division III tournaments, and the men’s soccer team was the
No. 1 seed in the ECAC New England Division III tournament.
•
Men’s lacrosse, baseball, women’s basketball, women’s lacrosse and women’s
soccer shared or won LEC conference championships.
Picture Perfect Form Melvin Castillo ’10 is an
Accounting major from Danbury, CT. He is a two-time All-America
and Eastern’s all-time home run leader.
Sarah Swann ’10, a Sport & Leisure Management major from
Oxford, CT, achieved All-Academic status in the Little East
Conference and received an E-Club Outstanding Scholar-Athlete
Award.
Physical Education major Maxim Fantl ’10 was an All-Little East
Conference selection in men’s lacrosse. The West Hartford native
was also named the LEC’s Offensive Player-of-The Year in men’s soccer.
