Comedian Hardeep said afterwards:
“I have had many cameras thrust in
my face. That is the lot of an
international love-god and style icon
(which I am). However, I have never
experienced such a creative and
rewarding shoot as I had with Ross
and Tricia. And they gave me soup.
Really nice soup. Homemade soup. I
miss them. And the soup.”
Musician and songwriter Eddi Reader
was equally content post-shoot:
“Sitting for a photograph is always
difficult for me but Ross and Tricia
made me feel comfortable and I
didn’t feel like they had stolen my
soul.”
The duo – which has shot many
covers for Ian Rankin novels over the
years – had real challenges with the
Alex Salmond portrait.
Recalls Ross: “Time was the thing.
You only ever get a few minutes with
a guy like him. He’s just so busy. We
found a stairwell – quite modern and
graphic – in the parliament building.
We wanted to try and produce an
image, the like of which never gets
used in the press. We had an
embedded strip light in the wall and
a light down the stairs.
We had a Bowen
Pulsar remote radio
trigger so there were
no wires for him to trip
over.
