volunteering is all about getting in

volved and making
a valuable contribution to your own community or
society. it covers any unpaid work which is undertaken
by choice for the benefit of others. volunteers come
from all walks of life and are active in almost all aspects
of society. examples include: coaching a sports team;
undertaking support roles or positions in university
clubs; mentoring students; visiting elderly people; and
raising awareness about a political or social cause.
volunteering assignments can range from ongoing
casual or part-time work to intensive, short-term
projects. in some cases volunteering can lead to paid
work.
Many volunteers are motivated by a
desire to make a positive difference,
to ‘give something back’ to society,
and to broaden their own horizons or
experiences in life. some use it as an opportunity
to test their interest in a particular area. there is much
to be gained on a personal level from voluntary work,
including the natural satisfaction derived from knowing
you are needed and valued. volunteering enables you
