Veteran Anchor Launches New Show on Newsmax2

S

Shannon Cake previews day’s biggest stories. BY MARISA HERMAN

hannon cake, veteran journalist and award-win- ning local news anchor, is bringing her masterful story-

telling skills — long known for cham- pioning and inspiring change — to a national stage. From exposing roach-infested restaurants on her Dirty Dining seg- ments to shedding light on unsani- tary nail salons, Cake will bring her local advocacy to a new audience and bigger platform as the host of News Now, weekdays at 9 a.m. ET on the streaming channel Newsmax2. During her 29 years at WPTV, the

NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach, Florida, Cake earned numerous acco- lades including 15 Regional Emmy Awards, a Regional Edward R. Mur- row Award, and dozens of Associated Press awards. While she was focusing on impact-

ful local stories, she watched News- max growing as a trusted national news outlet. So, when an opportunity to join

the burgeoning news com- pany opened up, she knew “it was time to do something new.” Cake will “set the table

for the day” for view- ers by advancing the

news agenda audiences can expect over the course of that day. Cake says that strong leadership

and curiosity are what set News- max apart from its competitors. She said the editorial team

is all about seeking the truth, listening to the audience, and incorporating perspectives from the reporters and analysts on staff. Cake grew up as an Army dependent; her father served in the military and became a diplomat. His role meant the family traveled the globe repre- senting the U.S. She spent time in Germany,

Hong Kong, and Singapore — which she describes as among the “most exciting cities I have ever been in in my life” — but always felt most at home on American soil. No matter where in the world she

was located — abroad or at home — her parents ingrained an ethos that when she walks into a room, she is representing God, the United States of America, and the Cake family. The family’s code of con-

as a journalist. Over her career she has interviewed congressmen, senators, and heads of state, but the moments that defined her tenure were the everyday people who trusted her to tell their story. When she isn’t on air, she is a wife

and mom to two teenagers, Joseph and Christian. She can be found cheering them on as they compete in sporting matches. In her free time, she enjoys ice

skating and is always happy to emcee charity events with military ties, including the Wounded Veterans Relief Fund and Believe With Me, which serves Gold Star families.
