excellent. The menu is seafood forward but
also off ers plenty of options for meat lovers and vegetarians.
WHAT TO EXPERIENCE The hotel has stand-up paddleboard yoga as well as a beach, boating, sport fi shing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Some of the world’s most
fascinating shipwrecks rest just off Aruba’s shores, making this an excellent diving destination. And constant trade winds
make Aruba an ideal location for windsurfi ng and kitesurfi ng at popular spots such as Arashi, Fisherman’s Hut, and Boca Grandi. De Palm Tours is another one-stop
adventure shop for island excursions. I checked out the three-hour Andicuri Off -Road Adventure Tour driving side-by-side, two-seater utility task vehicles. This is not your typical UTV
experience. You’ll have the opportunity to drive yourself, and the terrain is steep with lots of rocks and obstacles. Expect adrenaline surges and also to get super dirty from the
desert dust. The tour lets you witness Aruba’s
wild beauty in a way you can’t see from the paved road around the island. During the adventure, you’ll stop
at a number of local attractions, including a hidden black sand beach, a natural bridge formation, and the ruins of a gold mine. In the once-abandoned town of
San Nicolas on the south-east end of the island, there are now more than 50 murals and other art installations to check out. Tito’s tours last about two hours. The Aruba Art Fair is a yearly
art festival that takes place in September in San Nicolas. Local and international artists perform live art and display their unique creations. There are also local food and
beverages served, along with music, dance, and live entertainment.
ISLAND FOOD SCENE Aruba’s proximity to South America has infl uenced its culinary scene, and you’ll fi nd the food here is quite diff erent from other Caribbean
Islands. At the Marriott, Executive Chef
Ever de Pena runs cooking classes for guests. There are a few diff erent options, but I recommend learning how to make keshi yena, Aruba’s national dish, a delicious stuff ed cheese concoction. Also check out Lima Bistro in the
capital, Oranjestad, near where the cruise ships dock at Harbor House Marina. The international fare is infl uenced by Peruvian cooking and is truly unique. Begin with the tuna tostada or beef antichuco, and then move on to the short ribs with mushrooms and potato or the fi sh with black rice, calamari, and aioli lemon pepper butter. The craft cocktails are also stellar. With strong ties to the
Netherlands, Dutch fare is also present here. Head to Linda’s Dutch Pancakes for a breakfast you won’t soon forget. Similar to a crepe, the Dutch
pancakes here come sweet or savory and fi ll an entire plate. You can choose your own fi llings or go with the house recommendations.
