Afghan Women Betrayed
B
efore the U.S. invasion in 2001, Afghans lived under the Taliban’s oppressive enforcement
of Sharia law. Women were prohibited from getting an education or working outside of the home. Those who disobeyed could be publicly flogged or executed. In the 20 years that followed, women made
enormous strides, pursued goals, and achieved successes that were once unthinkable. As Americans, we must insist that their rights be preserved and protected.

Social Security Shortfall
T
his summer, Social Security celebrated its 86th anniversary. In 2021, 65 million Americans will receive this
benefit. It is the principal income for 34 million households. Yet the trust funds that support Social
Security are facing shortfalls. In 1945, there were 42 workers for every Social
Security beneficiary; from 1970 until 2009 about three-and-a-half to three workers supporting beneficiaries. Since 2010 that number has declined to just two workers for each beneficiary.

will have political repercussions for Democrats in 2022 and 2024. Inflation expectations are at their highest levels since 2013, gasoline prices are up more than 40 percent since January, and consumer prices in July rose 5.4 percent. Yet Biden continues to push for net-zero emissions. Energy analyst Kevin Book said it best, to
Bloomberg: “In my experience, high prices tend to usher out incumbent politicians faster than they usher in new technologies.”

proved this from Day One, right up to the Afghanistan fiasco. The Washington Free Beacon reported last year that Donald Trump’s
Perils of Negative Politics N
secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, established a new bureau to provide “aviation, logistics, and medical support . . . to protect American citizens overseas with overseas evacuations.” In June, as Taliban militants were making plans to take over
Afghanistan, the Biden administration disbanded the bureau, leaving the military and state department flat-footed. Biden’s entire administration is based on negative politics. On Day One he halted the southern border wall and dismantled the “remain in Mexico” policy so, each month, the number of illegal border crossings surpasses those of the previous month. You might ask who voted for this idiot. Very simply, it’s people who, in
large part, opted to practice negative politics. They voted against Trump, and Biden is what they got.

Defending Catholic Teachings A
fghanistan and trillion-dollar “infrastructure” bills pushed the Biden communion scandal out of the headlines. But if U.S. bishops
insist that public of icials who claim to be Catholic follow the teachings of the Catholic Church, the outrage machine will roar back to life. I recently wrote the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
urging them to defend the Church, her teachings, and the unborn against the actions of government leaders who advocate and advance the killing of children by abortion, including politicians who call themselves Catholic: “The actions of people like Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi are about leaders deliberately, creatively, and energetically implementing the agenda of a political party that has embraced, strongly and explicitly, positions that violate the most fundamental rights of human life and freedom.”
