Color Field handmade felt b y Rachel Nicholson
inspire me, whether I am working on a new piece of felt art, or taking a walk. When I was a child I lived on a fl ower farm, where fi elds of colorful fl owers were always around. As an adult, I realize how fortunate I was to live in such a beautiful setting; so I struggle constantly to achieve color as beautiful as the colors we fi nd in nature. “Color Field” is a work that takes me

back to my childhood. In eastern North Carolina., where pine trees heavily dotted our landscape, they became my favorite trees. They not only were a beautiful shape, but they also produced the beautiful pine cones we painted at Christmas as decorations. I often use a fi eld of fl owers in my work, as they remind me of the carefree existence of childhood. Felt is the oldest textile form dating to prehistoric times. I was a painter and printmaker when I fi rst became aware of hand-made wool felt. I fell in love with its tactile quality and the magic I sensed as it changed from loose strands of wool fl eece to a sturdy and beautiful fabric. In making the felt, each strand of colored fl eece is placed and mixed to achieve the fi nished landscape. Most often when I tell people that I make hand-made wool felt, they ask, “What is that?” I never tire of explaining the process! My goal is to acquaint people with this beautiful and ancient craft so that it continues to engage and captivate for future generations. Rachel Nicholson offers classes and has her work on display and for sale at select galleries. Her studio is located in Raleigh, NC. Hopefully, if our Natural Awakenings readers are interested in learning to felt, we can bring her to Central Florida! To learn more about her, visit:

Jeff Prickett Joins Holistic Health & Counseling Center
he Holistic Health & Counseling Center announces the addition of Jeff Prickett to their staff. Dr. Prickett is a Licensed Psychologist and Licensed Acupuncturist who is also certifi ed in Classical Homeopathy. Homeopathy is a system of natural medicine, which harnesses the intrinsic power of nature with remedies coming from the plant, mineral and animal kingdoms. Homeopathy is a 200-year-old system of medicine used worldwide by more than 200 million people. It uses small amounts of activated natural substances to stimulate the body’s natural healing response. It is based on the Law of Similars, which states that substances that can cause certain symptoms can also be used to resolve those same or similar symptoms, if given in the right dosage and prepared homeopathically. Since the actual doses are very small and are triggering the body’s natural healing response, Homeopathy does not have side effects and is completely safe for adults and children. Homeopathy is a natural way to support and enhance your body’s natural ability to reset and heal rather than merely suppress symptoms. Founder of HH&CC, John Tatum, MD has studied Homeopathy and uses it personally on a regular basis. He shares, “I am very pleased to have such an experienced Homeopath join our staff. At HH&CC, we use a multi-faceted, Holistic approach toward the goal of healing and resolution rather than mere suppression.
