Up-A-Yard: Young Entrepreneur Brings Jamaica To North Wales
Known for one of Wales’ Seven Wonders, Holywell might now become known for Up-A-Yard, a new Jamaican fine dining place “bringing the flava to North Wales”. Like many foodie pandemic babies, the restaurant began as a delivery service. Now, 25-year-old owner Charlotte Stanley has taken the leap in turning her business into a permanently situated venue in the town of Ffynnongroyw. Located at The Mill, home to local artists, Up- A-Yard promises authentic cuisine soundtracked by some gentle reggae. (Booking ahead is highly advisable as table availability disappears quickly.)

Sicilian Fusion Restaurant & Wine Bar, Kuro Sweetens Cardiff
New fine dining establishment Kuro is taking a taste of Sicily – by way of the UK – to Wales’ capital. As the restaurant itself explains, “Kuro” comes from the Sicilian “curò,” meaning “my heart” in the Italian dialect – a sweet sentiment the owners hope comes across in the restaurant’s homely atmosphere. Suitably, Italian and Welsh staples alike are given some extra, idiosyncratic flavour, such as venison bolognese with raw chocolate and squash soup garnished with popcorn. If the Willy Wonka school of cooking appeals to you, you’ll find Kuro on Albany Road.

Capital’s Best-Loved Indian Restaurant Relaunched For 10th Anniversary
Beloved by locals and critics, Cowbridge Road East’s award-winning Purple Poppadom recently completed a huge lockdown makeover (as was ‘the thing’ to do). As the restaurant rings in its 10th year, the opulent new look is fittingly celebratory – decked out in gold embellishments and trendy dark walls, exposed brick, and neon signage. And that’s not all that’s changed. The new menu is a nostalgic blast from the past, resurrecting bygone dishes from across PP’s 10 years in business that might bring back memories for especially loyal patrons. For the especially indulgent, there’s also the option of a seven-course tasting menu with paired wines.

Lynchburger’s ‘Best’ Uk Burgers Arrive In Newport
With the advent of Five Guys, the average fast food aficionado expects more for their buck these days than a measly Happy Meal can offer. Feeding this trend, up-and-coming indie chain Lynchburger, who lay claim to the title of the “UK’s best burger,” has recently expanded its mini-empire of meat with a third venue – this time, across the border in Newport. With ingredients from across the Atlantic, fans of bread + beef + bread will no doubt want to head on down to the newly-opened Welsh spot to see if all this meets the hype.
