Sustainability Issue
With COP26 (the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference) in full swing, the environmentally-conscious eyes of the world are turned on the UK this month - Scotland, to be precise, where the event is happening. For that reason, and because it’s kind of a big deal these days - and every day, frankly - we thought we’d dedicate a good portion of this issue to the topic of sustainability. More specifically, though not exclusively, sustainable fashion.
While eating less meat, recycling as much as we can and using less energy are tips we’re all aware of, the clothing we buy, wear and promptly throw away has a hugely negative impact on the environment as well. So for this issue, we’ve spoken to the makers in Wales who are making a difference to the fashion industry: Moray Luke, who upcycles the fish we don’t eat into high-end handbags, and outdoor wear pioneer Sam Osbourne of MAKE, who uses cutting edge materials that are both made to last and compostable. We’ve also deep-dived into the growing ‘slow fashion’ movement, compiled some handy info on how you - yes, you - can keep your wardrobe topped up without it costing the earth, and scoped out a luxury, back-to-nature retreat on Wales’ rugged west coast. Happy camping, and wearing!
