Welsh-originated but international in its outlook, much like its namesake you might say, the annual Dylan Thomas Prize has grown in stature since 2006 and now offers a £20,000 purse to its winner. It’s for fiction writers no older than 39 – chosen as Thomas died at that age; a gently morbid touch he may have appreciated – and has been whittled down to a shortlist of six ahead of May’s ceremony in Swansea. In 2022’s running, then, are the latest titles from Anuk Arudpragasam, Nidhi Zak/Aria Eipe, Nathan Harris, Patricia Lockwood [pictured], Caleb Azumah Nelson and Brandon Taylor.
