POSH CLUB

St Mellons Hub, Cardiff, Tue 20-Thurs 22 Dec Tickets: £5/FREE for locals. Info: commonwealththeatre.co.uk

Although Posh Club is one of several projects involving Cardiff theatre company Common Wealth in the last year or so, its chosen location recalls 2021’s Rent Party, their portrayal of “austerity Britain” held in a Conservative Club in Rumney. This time they’re in St Mellons, another Cardiff suburb, and this show is pitched at elderly locals: anyone who lives there, or adjacent Trowbridge, can come in free. It’s been devised alongside Duckie, legends of queer cabaret from London, and promises live theatrical performance, tea in fancy cups and saucers, and waiters wot are all proper and penguin-suited. ‘Course, it’s not actually posh – at least, you don’t have to be to go – rather, an effort to ensure actual poshos don’t have all the fun.
