Floods and water supplies
in your business flood plan, and the document should be accessible to key members of staff, such as directors and heads of department. One of the most effective ways of assessing
how much your property is at risk of flooding is to carry out a flood mitigation survey. Ideally, this survey should not only provide you with data on this, but also include details of which flood mitigation products should be considered and what the overall cost would be to fully protect the premises, such as we produce at The Flood Company. It can prove to be an extremely valuable
survey if you are looking to buy or sell a property that is at risk of flooding. For example, the cost of fully securing the property with flood mitigation products can be taken into consideration when negotiating the sale price. If the flood risk assessment has identified that it would cost £20,000 to protect the whole property that you are looking to purchase with mitigation measures, this could then be negotiated off the asking price. Installing flood mitigation products is by
far the most effective way of securing your property. Flood mitigation products can take a variety of forms, ranging from flood barriers and panels through to doors, gates and extra pumps to help drain excess water. Typically, products such as our Buffalo flood
barrier are made from extruded aluminium logs, in combination with unique rubber seals, which are clamped together to create a strong

but lightweight temporary flood wall to protect specific assets, whether they are stock, vehicles or storage units. These are also manufactured to exact height and width specifications, making them unique to your premises. Many solutions such as these can be combined to create a comprehensive flood mitigation system, which is bespoke to the needs of your business. Some examples of these are highlighted on the next page. One problem that retrofitting flood mitigation
products in commercial buildings can cause is disruption during installation to a loading bay or goods entrance, for example.
