Aico alarms installed in council properties

MULTI SENSOR, heat and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms from Aico will be installed in 1,400 of South Cambridgeshire District Council’s sheltered homes. These alarms will also feature warden

call systems connected to the mains powered alarms, with the council ‘already planning to replace’ its existing warden call systems, but electing to also upgrade alarms at the same time. Aico has been able to ‘offer a bespoke solution’ to wirelessly connect alarms to the call systems, utilising its Ei414 interface for ‘maximum tenant safety and convenience’. This interface can also be used to

interconnect the alarms with sprinklers and part one fi re detection systems, while the smoke alarms are being installed to category LD2. Heat alarms will be placed in kitchens, multi sensor units in ‘all circulation spaces’ and entrance halls, and CO alarms in properties ‘that are not fully electric’, with properties and tenants requiring ‘extended protection’ from risks to have alarm systems extended to include additional rooms.

THE FEDERATION appointed Andrew Madge, managing director of Gowercroft Joinery, to the board, while Wolfgang Gorner of Allan Brothers and Simon Badham of Arden Windows joined the federation’s council. Mr Madge will support initiatives

customer’, using its alarms across 5,700 properties, and was ‘impressed’ with the company’s AudioLINK

technology built into the alarms, which ‘enables real time data to be extracted from each alarm using its sounder directly to a smartphone or tablet’. Eddie Spicer, the council’s mechanical and electrical surveyor,

stated: ‘The

integration ensures that there is one system in each property, reducing costs and maintenance visits. We have two providers of call systems and one of them has expressed great interest in the system we are using, as they have not seen it used on their equipment previously. ‘The service provided by Aico is impeccable. The stock provision and minimal failure rate has ensured that this project is running smoothly and to time. We have also integrated an online monitoring trial into the project and the ongoing support

has been really useful and has made the system work for us.’

We look forward to his active contribution in the future and his efforts in championing our Build it Better with Wood campaign. ‘We’re also excited to welcome both

Wolfgang and Simon to the BWF Council. As dedicated members of the BWF, they have been instrumental in promoting the benefi ts of wooden doors and windows and we look forward to them continuing to drive forward our strategy promoting the use of timber to the wider construction industry.’
