Sprinkler awareness

NATIONAL FIRE Sprinkler Network (NFSN) member Project Fire will hold a fire sprinkler awareness event in central London on 3 May, including CPDs and talks hosted by international speakers. Topics covered will include high rise buildings, innovative technology and sustainability

initiatives

for sprinklers, with the all day event including a complimentary evening reception and networking. To find out more about the event, visit http://mailchi. mp/projectfire.co.uk/ save-the-date-safe- for-life-fire-protection- seminar-1348289

Safety in 3D

LUMINOUS GROUP has designed the RIVO software, utilising mixed reality for asset mapping, which has been aimed at oil and gas, facilities management and construction industries. The software is accessed with a Microsoft HoloLens headset and can ‘enhance’ fire safety through drawing up critical building information in real time, such as evacuation points or fire routes. Both NASA and Jaguar Land Rover are currently testing and using the technology.

THE CYGNUS wireless alarm system from Bull has been installed in a range of the UK’s ‘largest construction projects’.

Bull

stated that Cygnus is a ‘major innovation in wireless emergency fire, first aid, and intruder alarms’, claiming it is the ‘most successful and adaptable temporary alarm system on the market’. The company pointed out its use at the construction of Tottenham Hotspur’s new football stadium in London. Cygnus has been ‘specially designed for use in dense concrete and steel structured buildings’, or where ‘there are many other radio frequencies in use’, featuring a long range connection with distances ‘in excess

of 1.5km’, recorded through a ‘networking meshing system’. A maximum of 15 zones with 32 devices per zone can be set up, with different zone addresses. This system can also grow with construction site expansion, and units can be removed from site ‘with minimal damage’, while the system itself can be installed ‘in minutes’ with ‘minimal interference to ongoing construction’ and ‘no complicated cables’. Systems can also be preconfigured to customer requests, and it conforms to EN 300 220 category 1 requirements with multipoint communication and a central control panel

Aico alarms chosen for building services

THE COMPANY’s alarms are fitted ‘solely throughout’ E7 Building Services’ residential properties.

E7 Building Services has offered building

services for over 60 years, and said that it fits Aico smoke alarms ‘solely throughout all residential properties’ because it considers them ‘the best and most reliable equipment on the market’. It mostly uses Aico’s Ei160e series of mains alarms with ten year rechargeable Lithium cell back ups, while the alarms also feature protection for up to BS 5839-6 grade D applications. These alarms are optical and heat alarms that are ‘resistant to false alarms, easy to install, attractive with their clean, modern design’ and fully compatible with existing Aico alarms and accessories, as well as offering compatibility with RadioLINK+

technology ‘for whole system data extraction and wireless alarm interconnection’. Terry Parrish, technical services manager at E7 Building Services, commented: ‘We exclusively fit Aico smoke and heat alarms in all of our domestic properties, the majority of which are design and build. These are flats and individual properties; many of our flats are covered by BS 5839-1 systems in the communal areas. Any other projects we tend to insist on Aico. ‘We fit Aico devices in all our domestic

developments because in my opinion they are the best and most reliable equipment on the market. I can’t remember ever being called back to a property where an Aico device has gone wrong and we have been constantly using Aico devices for around 20 years.’
