Nigel Firkins Reducing risk (p32)


After working for 27 years as an operational firefighter for London Fire Brigade (LFB), Nigel then went


on to specialise in fire engineering and developed an interest in fire suppression systems, becoming LFB’s technical lead for sprinklers and other suppression systems. He is a chartered fire engineer and for the last five years has worked for the Building Research Establishment (BRE) suppression team, where he develops guidance and standards for fire suppression systems.

Adair is a technical consultant at the FPA. One of the first engineers to achieve recognition on both


the life safety and property protection streams of the IFE’s Register of Fire Risk Assessors, he wrote The Prevention and Control of Arson and co wrote Fire Risk Management in the Workplace. He has contributed to many other FPA publications, and assisted in drafting several Home Office and HSE guidance documents.
