New partnership allows GPs to see effectiveness of swimming

Solent University Sports Centre reaches construction milestone

Southampton Solent University has reached a turning point in its construction, seeing the highest point of the structure being built and subsequently celebrated with a topping out ceremony. The new sports building is part of an

ongoing £100m estates development plan, which is transforming Solent’s East Park Terrace (EPT) campus. The new sports building will comprise two sports halls, three fitness studios, a health and wellbeing gym, a strength and conditioning gym and

teaching facilities. The project, which is being managed by

Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure, began in September 2017 and is set to complete in the summer of 2019. Jon Daines, area director at Morgan Sindall,

said: “We’re delighted to be marking this milestone with Solent University and our wider project team. The shape of the structure is now clear and you can begin to gain a sense of the striking landmark this building will form on campus once complete.”

Medical professionals who prescribe pool- based physical activity can now access real- time activity data on individual patients thanks to a new partnership. Until now, pool-based activity has been

difficult to track and monitor, with GPs and other allied health professionals reliant on the word of the patient when it comes to activity undertaken. Now Swimtag, a platform for pool

operators keen to motivate and support swimmers, has teamed up with referral software provider, ReferAll. The integration means medical care and treatment plans can be prescribed based on evidence, increasing the effectiveness and relevance to the individual. Once a patient gives their consent, the medical professional who made the referral is granted access to the patient’s Swimtag data via the ReferAll app. They can access detailed information relating to the type and frequency of activity the patient has undertaken. Future prescription can then be built on factual information, increasing the effectiveness of the prescription.

Arup appointed on Stadium for Bath project

Global engineering and design consultancy Arup has been appointed by Stadium for Bath, which brings together Bath Rugby, Bath Rugby Foundation and Arena 1865, to design a new community-focused stadium for the city. The appointment follows a multi-stage

procurement process involving a series of workshops with the Stadium for Bath team. The workshops explored engineering challenges posed by the proposed site, which is positioned in the centre of the UNESCO World Heritage city.

8 pactfacilities.co.uk Arup will provide civil, geotechnical,

structural, mechanical, electrical and public health engineering as well as ICT, audio visual, acoustic and specialist lighting design for the 18,000 seat, digitally-enabled stadium. The project will be led from Bristol and will work closely with the other firms appointed to design the stadium: Grimshaw Architects, Kay Elliot and Gross Max. The scheme is still in the planning process

with details of the start and completion of construction yet to be released.
