Welcome... Making a difference through sport

Sporting Capital Approximately 30 to 50 organisations are expected to benefit from the new £3m Sporting Capital Fund over the next three years. The loan funding will be used to help organisations develop new projects, operations and revenue streams.

DEVELOPING new sports facilities is one thing, but keeping them going is quite another challenge. Enter Sporting Capital, the UK’s first social investment fund that focuses specifically on organisations and projects that help to develop communities through sport and physical activity.

Sporting Capital is the social investment arm of Sporting Assets, a community sports and social investment adviser which aims to grow a resilient and impactful community sports sector.

Its new £3m Sporting Capital Fund extends this vision by providing simple unsecured loan funding of between £50,000 and £150,000 to eligible organisations.

In this issue, we talk to Pete Maguire, managing director of Sporting Assets about how the fund can help organisations that make a difference through sport. (P14)

“Traditionally community sport has been funded by grants focused on sports participation, not the revenue generators required to cover the running costs of facilities or organisations. As a result, financial sustainability is a cause of concern in a significant number of community sports clubs and sport for development organisations.”

By providing affordable capital as well as support, Sporting Assets aims to help such organisations become sustainable community sports businesses, giving them more chance of long term success so that they can continue to make a difference in our communities.
